The Delano Tigers will head out to take on the Mound-Westonka White Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Delano is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Delano barely beat Orono the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 11-1 victory on Friday. The Tigers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 13, 2024 (when they won 10-0).
Carter Van Beusekom was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Brody Geislinger, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs.
Delano always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orono only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, Mound-Westonka posted their closest win since May 16, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Edison 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the White Hawks in their matchups with the Tommies: they've now won four in a row.
Cole Munsterteiger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Munsterteiger was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. He has become a key player for Mound-Westonka: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Kraay, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Drill, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Mound-Westonka's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Delano, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-3.
Mound-Westonka's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Delano has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mound-Westonka, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Delano keep running through batters, or will the White Hawks buck the trend?
Delano beat Mound-Westonka 3-0 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
