Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Lab). They put the hurt on the McKinley Panthers with a sharp 23-6 victory on Monday. The Kittens have beaten the Panthers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Panthers has come to flipping the script.
Robert Gordon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Tyrius Marioneaux was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Southern Lab is undefeated when Marioneaux posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Reginald Ellis, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Southern Lab's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for McKinley, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Looking ahead, Southern Lab will welcome White Castle at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for McKinley, they will face off against Port Allen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
