Mabel-Canton will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Spring Grove, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars won by a run and slipped past the Lions 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since April 8th.

Nolan Garness made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Milton Hutchinson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, Southland entered their tilt with Grand Meadow/Kingsland/LeRoy-Ostrander on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against the Superlarks by a score of 12-8.
Like Mabel-Canton, Southland also got a great game from a two-way player: Noah Goergen. On the mound, he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Goergen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Beau Sathre was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Austin Swenson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles.
Southland's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Mabel-Canton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-9.
