The Chavez Titans were the 59-52 winner over the Taft Wildcats when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Chavez took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Taft on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Taft to victory were Chase Phillips and Blaine Neudorf. Phillips dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Neudorf dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Phillips has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of David Magana, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Chavez's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Taft, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chavez will take on Kennedy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Taft, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wasco at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wasco has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 11.
