The Irwin County Indians lost against the Lanier County Bulldogs back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Irwin County took a hard 58-40 fall against Lanier County. While losing is never fun, Irwin County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Lanier County is ranked 233rd).
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Javion Woodard, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Woodard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Jaylen Martin was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Irwin County has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Lanier County, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.
Irwin County will head out on the road to square off against Cook at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Saturday. As for Lanier County, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Clinch County at 7:30 p.m.
