Woodland Regional has gone 8-2 against Wolcott recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Hawks will head out to square off against the Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Woodland Regional will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
On Wednesday, Woodland Regional beat Holy Cross 6-1.
Ella VanAlstyne made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Braun, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Angelena Tottenham, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Wolcott unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against St. Paul Catholic, falling 19-3.
Lauryn Sinclair was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Woodland Regional pushed their record up to 17-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 13.7 runs thus far. As for Wolcott, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodland Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wolcott struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Woodland Regional's way against Wolcott in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Woodland Regional made off with a 14-2 victory. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
