The Wayland Warriors scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They strolled past Innovation Academy with points to spare, taking the game 64-46. The victory was some much needed relief for Wayland as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Innovation Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Derrick Twum, who scored 19 points. Twum is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Kankam, who scored 13 points.
Wayland's win ended a eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-11. As for Innovation Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayland won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Newton South at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Newton South is coming into the match with four straight losses on the road, meaning Wayland will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Innovation Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Northeast Metro RVT at 5:15 p.m. Northeast Metro RVT will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Innovation Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
