The Weldon Chargers are on the road again on Friday and play against the Wilson Prep Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Weldon rose to the challenge on Friday. They managed a 20-14 victory over Gates County. The victory was just what Weldon needed coming off of a 20-0 defeat in their prior matchup.
Ky'Saan Bevier and Sylvester Witherspoon were among the main playmakers for Weldon as the former picked up 82 receiving yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Wilson Prep waltzed into two weeks ago's contest with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They strolled past Southeast Halifax with points to spare, taking the game 24-8.
Travon Usher looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 120 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Wilson Prep also got a significant boost from Christian Richardson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
Weldon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Wilson Prep, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Weldon suffered a grim 24-0 defeat to Wilson Prep in their previous matchup back in September. Can Weldon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
