The Renton Red Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Interlake Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Renton comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Renton couldn't beat Lindbergh on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the fourth inning. The Red Hawks came up short against the Eagles, falling 26-11. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (ten), the Red Hawks still had to take the loss.
Mayliahna Pitoau made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Richards, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Interlake got the win against Highline on Wednesday by a conclusive 15-5. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won eight matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Lizzy Thompsen made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Dorah Wang was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Madeline Knight was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Interlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highline only managed six hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Interlake and bumps their season record up to 10-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Renton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Renton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Interlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Renton might still be hurting after the 22-5 loss they got from Interlake when the teams last played on Saturday. Can the Red Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
