Baseball Game Preview: True North Classical Academy Titans vs. Ransom Everglades Raiders

The True North Classical Academy Titans will challenge the Ransom Everglades Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

True North Classical Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against North Broward Prep on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 4-3.

William Foss was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, True North Classical Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Balsera, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ransom Everglades had no problem doing just that on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 13-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Juan Velazco was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Ransom Everglades' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Grossfeld, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Ransom Everglades was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

True North Classical Academy's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Ransom Everglades, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. True North Classical Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ransom Everglades struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
