The Clinton Red Devils had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They strolled past Emerald with points to spare, taking the game 41-27. This was payback for Clinton, who suffered a 35-31 loss the last time these two teams met.
Clinton found their leader in underclassman Mylayja Thompson, who scored 15 points along with eight steals. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakalia Redd, who scored eight points.
Clinton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Emerald, they bumped their record down to 5-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will challenge Union County at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Union County comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Emerald, they will head out on the road to take on Woodruff at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
