The Chopticon Braves struggled with assists on Friday (the Fairmont Heights Hornets had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Chopticon suffered a tough 78-52 defeat at the hands of Fairmont Heights. Chopticon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-23.
Despite the defeat, Chopticon saw an underclassman step up: Braylon Harrison scored ten points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brian McMahon, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Leading Fairmont Heights to victory were Zion McQueen and Amari Brice-Johnson. McQueen scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Brice-Johnson scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The match was McQueen's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabari Burnett, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Chopticon has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Fairmont Heights, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Chopticon will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Howard at 6:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Howard is ranked 128th, while Chopticon is ranked 124th). Fairmont Heights and Surrattsville will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
