On Saturday, Pikeville was able to grind out a solid victory over East Chapel Hill, taking the game 51-41. Given Pikeville's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 95th in Kentucky, while East Chapel Hill is ranked 284th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, East Chapel Hill still got an impressive performance from Makai Rhodes, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Smith, who scored eight points.
Pikeville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for East Chapel Hill, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pikeville will face off against Christian Educational Consortium on Saturday. East Chapel Hill will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Southern Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th.
