The Albuquerque Bulldogs had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They strolled past Atrisco Heritage Academy with points to spare, taking the game 60-42. Given Albuquerque's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Atrisco Heritage Academy is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Albuquerque to victory were Kaelynn Ashley and Lailah Bouldin. Ashley dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, while Bouldin scored 23 points along with two steals. Amariah Valles was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Atrisco Heritage Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tatiana Magallanes. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with six assists and five steals. Magallanes hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Janessa Gallegos, who scored six points.
Albuquerque is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albuquerque will take on Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome La Cueva at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. La Cueva is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
