The Belen Eagles lost against the Grants Pirates back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Belen fell to the Pirates 50-46. Belen has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Belen's loss came despite strong showings from Danilynn Bob and Sara Martinez. Bob scored 16 points, while Martinez scored 15 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Martinez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brooke DeLeon, who scored eight points.
Belen has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Grants, their win bumped their record up to 4-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belen won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Hawks at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Thoreau has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Grants, they will head out on the road to challenge the Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
