CARLSBAD, Calif. - Saturday brought a surprise upset in California where
La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad, Calif.) triumphed over No. 43
Carlsbad (Calif.) 24-10.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Jake Mann in the first quarter, the Mavericks led 14-3 at the half.
Carlsbad's lone touchdown came on a 4-yard run by
Dylan Rutledge in the third quarter.
La Costa Canyon came into the game allowing 17.8 points per game. The 10 points that the Lancers ended with were well below their average of 41.2 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, LCC came away with a 28-14 victory.
The win brought La Costa Canyon's winning streak to three games.
La Costa Canyon (5-2) will play a Avocado - West game against Vista next week, while Carlsbad (5-2) will take on El Camino also in a Avocado - West game.
