The Cherokee Trail Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 21 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Heritage 65-15 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Cherokee Trail has managed all season.
Cherokee Trail was led to victory by Delainey Miller and Karson Chaney. Miller scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, while Chaney scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Chaney scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Damara Allen, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Heritage saw an underclassman step up: Skylar Peterson scored six points.
Cherokee Trail's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Heritage, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.
Cherokee Trail will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Springfield at 1:30 p.m. on December 18th. Springfield is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. Heritage will be home for the holidays to greet Smoky Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Smoky Hill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
