Basketball Recap: Crest's Loss Ends Ten-Game Winning Streak at Home

Crest entered their match against Kings Mountain on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Crest Chargers fell just short of the Kings Mountain Mountaineers by a score of 60-57. The Chargers were probably out for revenge after losing 78-67 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Crest still got an impressive performance from Cal Pass Jr., who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave Pass Jr. a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyrik Pettis, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Crest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Kings Mountain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kee'Donn Linney led the charge by going 9 for 15 en route to 24 points and five boards. The game was Linney's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Silas Tate, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists.

Crest's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-2. As for Kings Mountain, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crest will square off against North Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Crest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matchups -- so hopefully North Gaston likes a good challenge. As for Kings Mountain, they will challenge South Point at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.2 points per game this season.
