The Cheyenne Wells Tigers will face off against the Elbert Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Cheyenne Wells will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Manzanola on Wednesday. The Tigers blew past the Bobcats 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Marcus Bogenhagen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cheyenne Wells got a massive performance out of Trevin Smith, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Smith a new career-high. Ethen Garay was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Cheyenne Wells was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Elbert had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 14-8 victory.
Like Cheyenne Wells, Elbert also got a great game from a two-way player: Thomas Burian. Throwing, Burian tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Steven Smith struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Elbert is 2-1 when Burian allows three or fewer hits, but 3-5 otherwise. At bat, Burian got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base, while Smith went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Grant Smith was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Matt Dooley, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Cheyenne Wells now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Elbert, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cheyenne Wells has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Elbert struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cheyenne Wells took their victory against Elbert when the teams last played back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 12-6 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
