The Coral Shores Hurricanes will challenge the Mater Bay Academy Rays at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Coral Shores is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 14 games.
Coral Shores proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Dade Christian 7-6.
Donovan Thiery was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eddie Holly, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
Coral Shores lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Mater Bay Academy can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game two weeks ago. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Downtown Doral.
Rafael Abreu and Alexis Mesa did most of the damage at the plate: Abreu scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Mesa scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Mesa is becoming a predictor of Mater Bay Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kellan Portell, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Coral Shores pushed their record up to 15-1-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Mater Bay Academy, their record now sits at 2-9.
Mater Bay Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coral Shores has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Mater Bay Academy, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Coral Shores' sizable advantage in that area, the Rays will need to find a way to close that gap.
Coral Shores took their victory against Mater Bay Academy in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
