The South Lenoir Blue Devils will face off against the Midway Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as South Lenoir comes in on six and Midway on three.
On Friday, South Lenoir earned a 5-1 win over East Duplin. The five-run effort marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Jake Howard was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Midway was able to grind out a solid victory over West Johnston on Thursday, taking the game 7-4.
Harry Johnson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Wesley Tew, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Herring, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
South Lenoir's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Midway, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Lenoir has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Lenoir might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Midway in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will South Lenoir have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
