The Rivercrest Colts will square off against the Newport Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Rivercrest was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Harrisburg on Friday. The Colts took their game with ease, bagging a 54-20 win over the Hornets. The victory continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won four in a row.
It was another big night for Jayden Young, who picked up 99 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 46 yards and two scores. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 66 yards. Another player making a difference was Jayden Ralph, who threw for 164 yards and four TDs on perfect 7-for-7 passing.
Rivercrest didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jamaris Byrd and Young.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newport). They blew past Piggott, posting a 59-6 win. With the Greyhounds ahead 51-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Newport's win came from a few key players Rivercrest will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Trevion Greer, who rushed for 122 yards and three scores on only nine carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Reynolds, who rushed for 58 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Newport's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Rivercrest, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Rivercrest has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 217 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Newport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 260.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Rivercrest didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Newport when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 48-44 victory. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
