Lawrence County is 7-2 against Purvis since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cougars will face off against the Tornadoes at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Lawrence County's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
Lawrence County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering West Marion just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 11-10.
Addie Raye Pennington led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of GG Sanders, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Purvis came tearing into Tuesday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Blue Devils. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Chelsea Regan - 2025 was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Regan - 2025 wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mabrey Barrett - 2027, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Barrett - 2027 hit this season.
Purvis hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 15 consecutive games.
Purvis' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Lawrence County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Lawrence County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Purvis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lawrence County beat Purvis 15-10 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
