The Grangeville Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the McCall-Donnelly Vandals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grangeville has five straight wins, McCall-Donnelly has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Grangeville gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Kellogg 12-2. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Adalei Lefebvre was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Maddison Harris was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Siena Wagner, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
Grangeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
McCall-Donnelly had taken Payette down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Vandals fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 17-16. Even if the Vandals couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Harper Ferguson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Schreiner, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
McCall-Donnelly's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Grangeville, their record now sits at 11-8.
Everything went Grangeville's way against McCall-Donnelly in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Grangeville made off with an 11-4 win. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vandals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
