The Fernley Vaqueros waltzed into their contest on Friday with 12 straight wins but they left with 13. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 58-57 win over Elko. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fernley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johnnie Williams, who scored 22 points along with two steals and two blocks. Williams hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Dunagan-Stephens, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Fernley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. As for Elko, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-8.
Fernley will head out on the road to face off against Spring Creek at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fernley knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Spring Creek likes a good challenge. As for Elko, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Dayton at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Elko is facing Dayton at the right time seeing as Dayton is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
