Mater Lakes Academy won the last time they faced Schoolhouse Prep, and Vanessa Vancott did her part to make sure it happened again. The Mater Lakes Academy Bears managed a 69-64 victory over the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack on Tuesday thanks in part to Vancott, who went 16 of 30 en route to 49 points along with seven boards and four steals. Her evening made it 20 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.
The team also got some help courtesy of Juliet Morillo, who posted six blocks and five rebounds. That's the most blocks she has posted since back in January of 2024.
Despite the defeat, Schoolhouse Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lya Gonzalez went 10 for 22 on her way to 28 points in addition to eight assists and five boards. Gonzalez has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 14 times she's played. Kalem Preston was another key player, putting up eight points and 13 rebounds.
The win made it two in a row for Mater Lakes Academy and bumps their season record up to 14-7. As for Schoolhouse Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Mater Lakes Academy will take on Palmer Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mater Lakes Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.1 points per game this season. As for Schoolhouse Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 79-39 defeat against Somerset Prep on the 22nd.
