Basketball Recap: Tennae Cabral's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wiregrass Ranch over Mitchell

Wiregrass Ranch lost against Mitchell back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wiregrass Ranch Bulls fell just short of the Mitchell Mustangs by a score of 48-46. While losing is never fun, the Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 144th).

Wiregrass Ranch lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tennae Cabral, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Cabral has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anabella Nieves, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Mitchell found their leader in sophomore Kaylana Little, who posted 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Little has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Carys Thuma was another key player, putting up two points in addition to six steals and five boards.

Wiregrass Ranch's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Mitchell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Wiregrass Ranch wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-16 loss against River Ridge on the 24th. As for Mitchell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-43 win against Wesley Chapel on the 24th.
