The Mira Costa Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Simi Valley Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mira Costa comes in on six and Simi Valley on three.
Mira Costa extended their postseason success on Friday against Murrieta Mesa. They walked away with a 34-24 victory over the Rams.
Mira Costa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Reese Leonard led the charge by picking up 156 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Leonard has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more receiving yards the last three times he's played. Nico De La Cruz was another key contributor, throwing for 372 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Simi Valley narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Huntington Beach 32-29.
Simi Valley relied on the efforts of Jesse Sereno, who rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown, and Brice Hawkins, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Mira Costa's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.3 points per game. As for Simi Valley, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
