Key West is a perfect 3-0 against NSU University since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Key West Conchs will challenge the NSU University Sharks at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Key West: 3, NSU University: 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Saturday, Key West had just enough and edged out Miami Christian 6-4.
Cruz Holmes looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Roman Garcia was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Auggy Davila was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, NSU University put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Marathon get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. Considering the Sharks have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Juju Logan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zachary Cairns, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
NSU University hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marathon struck out seven times.
NSU University's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Key West, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Key West has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like NSU University struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Key West came out on top in a nail-biter against NSU University in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will Key West repeat their success, or does NSU University have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
