Eastern recap Oct. 9, 2012
Scripps Ranch moved up to 626 from 682 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Eastern. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of a 52-10 win over the Falcons.
St. Augustine took down San Diego 45-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. JoJo Hudson threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 12 yards in the win.
Xavier Williams was the best wideout in the league this week as Cathedral Catholic bested Scripps Ranch. Williams racked up three receptions for 75 yards. Drew Gaffney helped Cathedral Catholic's passing attack out by catching two balls for 51 yards.
Elijah Preston was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 156 yards as the Saints bested Joe Meyer's team. Teammate Tristan Juarez added to the ground attack by rushing for 42 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Hudson and Tyler Herburger St. Augustine has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Hudson leads the league in passing with 594 yards, while Herburger has rushed for 504 yards this season. Cathedral Catholic's Williams leads the league in receiving yards with 353 on 19 catches.
A big matchup in Eastern this week will be when Sean Doyle's team takes on Lincoln. The Dons are currently in third, while the Hornets are in second.
The Falcons made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,368 from 9,294. The improvement came about via a 52-10 victory over Scripps Ranch last week.
