If the Whiting Oilers were riding high off their 63-2 takedown of the Lighthouse College Prep Academy Lions on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Whiting was dealt a 62-22 defeat at the hands of Valparaiso on Saturday. Whiting has not had much luck with Valparaiso recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Alyssa Quinones was Whiting's leading scorer, having posted 11 points.
Aaliah Blanco held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.
Valparaiso found their leader in underclassman Lillian Barnes, who scored 24 points along with nine assists and eight rebounds. The match was Barnes' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Becca Gerdt, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 4-6-1. As for Valparaiso, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whiting will take on Calumet New Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Calumet New Tech comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Valparaiso will be home for the holidays to greet Chesterton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chesterton is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
