Baseball Game Preview: Pine Forest Trojans vs. South View Tigers

The Pine Forest Trojans are headed away from home for the first time to take on the South View Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South View took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Pine Forest, who comes in off a win.

Pine Forest will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Gray's Creek, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Pine Forest skirted past Gray's Creek 11-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.

Jayhlen Brown was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Chase Mims was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, South View came up short against St. Pauls on Tuesday and fell 11-7. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly four runs.

Trey Ray was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ray was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

In other batting news, Brayden Moncrief made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was David Ramsey, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Pine Forest's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs over those games. As for South View, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Pine Forest took their win against South View when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pine Forest since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
