North Davidson is a perfect 10-0 against Ledford since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Black Knights will be playing at home against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (North Davidson 3.3, Ledford 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, North Davidson needed a bit of extra time to put away Central Davidson. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Spartans. The Black Knights haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Rileigh Barker spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, North Davidson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Sears, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ledford fell victim to Oak Grove and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grizzlies. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Ledford also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Leah Leonard gave up just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
North Davidson pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Ledford, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Davidson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Ledford struggles in that department as they've averaged .370. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Davidson skirted past Ledford 7-6 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Black Knights repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
