Plainfield has gone a perfect 10-0 against Greenwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Quakers will head out to challenge the Woodmen at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Plainfield has 18 straight wins, Greenwood has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Plainfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Mooresville, taking the game 6-2.
Kami Arnett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Arnett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kenzi Arnett was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kylie Fish, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Greenwood didn't have quite enough to beat Triton Central on Friday and fell 4-2. That's two games in a row now that the Woodmen have lost by exactly two runs.
Like Plainfield, Greenwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Tessa Hammons. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, Hammons didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Greenwood got a good showing from Maddy Cravens, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cravens has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Hammons wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gillian Semmler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Plainfield pushed their record up to 23-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, their record is now 6-17.
Greenwood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Plainfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Greenwood, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Plainfield's sizable advantage in that area, the Woodmen will need to find a way to close that gap.
Plainfield was able to grind out a solid win over Greenwood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Quakers repeat their success, or do the Woodmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
