The Robinson Maroons will head out on the road to challenge the Marshall Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Robinson's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They came out on top against Martinsville by a score of 3-0. The Maroons haven't had any issues with the Bluestreaks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Olivia Chiasson, who gave up just six hits to keep Martinsville off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brylee Yates, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Mallory Mosbey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Marshall put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Salt Fork. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Kyla Gustafson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Gustafson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lynn Welborn was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Haley McGuire, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Marshall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Marshall pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Robinson, their record now sits at 4-2.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Robinson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Marshall struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Robinson came out on top in a nail-biter against Marshall in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for Robinson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
