Hellgate kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 21-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Billings Senior Broncs. The Knights just can't catch a break and have now endured 11 losses in a row dating back to last season.
Hellgate's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vince Paffhausen, who threw for 203 yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Cole Zeigler also helped out with an impressive 118 receiving yards.
Hellgate's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Milo Sherman.
A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Ryder Murdock and his top target Davyn Lehfeldt. Murdock rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries while Lehfeldt picked up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown. Lehfeldt got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 67 yards.
Hellgate will be defending their home-field for the first time this season they go up against Great Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Billings Senior, they are taking a road trip to square off against Glacier at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
