The Firestone Falcons will face off against the Cloverleaf Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Firestone has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Firestone fell victim to Ellet and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 12-0 to the Orangement. It was the first time this season that the Falcons let down their fans at home.
Meanwhile, Cloverleaf owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Woodridge with a sharp 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Alyson Croft, who gave up just four hits to keep Woodridge off the board. Croft has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cloverleaf got a big performance out of Aubrey Willig, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kennedie Prok, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Cloverleaf and bumps their season record up to 7-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Firestone, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Firestone has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .564. However, it's not like Cloverleaf struggles in that department as they've averaged .486. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Firestone suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Cloverleaf when the teams last played back in March. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
