The Burlington City Blue Devils suffered their biggest defeat since December 14, 2023 on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 74-49 walloping at the hands of Burlington Township. While losing is never fun, Burlington City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Burlington Township is ranked 143rd).
Burlington Township's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aaron Ferguson, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. Ferguson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tj Morrison, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Burlington City has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Burlington Township, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Burlington City on the road again on Monday and play against Pennsauken at 5:15 p.m. on January 22nd. As for Burlington Township, they will take on Overbrook at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Overbrook is on a three-game streak of home wins, Burlington Township a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
