Mora is 1-9 against Pecos since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Rangers are taking a road trip to take on the Panthers at 11:00 a.m. Mora has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mora managed to slip by Mesa Vista the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Rangers came up short against the Trojans on Tuesday, falling 13-5.
Marcus Vigil was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. James Cruz was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pecos). They blew past McCurdy 25-9 on Thursday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 8.6 runs per game.
Nikko Bencomo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Pecos is 2-1 when Bencomo allows three or fewer earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Bencomo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Jeremiah Mondragon was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Justin Sandoval, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI and one run.
Pecos hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Mora's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Pecos, they moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mora has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .508. However, it's not like Pecos struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mora might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Pecos in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Rangers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
