The Fryeburg Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the York Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Fryeburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Fryeburg was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Spruce Mountain on Wednesday. The Raiders blew past the Phoenix 16-1. That looming 16-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Raiders yet this season.
Oliver Dean made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Dean was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jagger Helwig and Alex Allain did most of the damage at the plate: Helwig went 2-for-3 with eight RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Allain got on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double. With that strong performance, Allain is now averaging an impressive 2.7 runs per game. Camden Blake was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Fryeburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spruce Mountain only posted an OBP of .176.
York came out on top against Poland on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Wildcats never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The result came thanks to Lucas Ketchum's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on John Jacobsohn, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Zach Tremblay also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
York's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Fryeburg, their record now sits at 3-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fryeburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fryeburg couldn't quite finish off York in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 10-8. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
