Basketball Recap: SPIRE Academy Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

SPIRE Academy can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 57-50 win over the Warrensville Heights Tigers. The SPIRE's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Warrensville Heights lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Taniyah Lewis, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 12 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Lewis has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Demarionna Branch, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 15 points and six boards.

SPIRE Academy pushed their record up to 1-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.4 points per game. As for Warrensville Heights, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. SPIRE Academy will head out to challenge Anthony Wayne at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Anthony Wayne knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 matches -- so hopefully SPIRE Academy likes a good challenge. As for Warrensville Heights, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Warrensville Heights Tigers challenge the Shaw Cardinals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Warrensville Heights is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.8 points per game this season.
