Baseball Recap: Belle Vernon Wins Going Away Against Yough

Belle Vernon's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Everything went their way against the Yough Cougars as they made off with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Braden Andrews tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Matusik, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Kole Doppelheuer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Belle Vernon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.

Belle Vernon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Yough, they dropped their record down to 0-14 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Belle Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-2 win against West Mifflin on the 5th. As for Yough, they have also already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Deer Lakes on the 5th.
