The Adena Warriors will take on the Zane Trace Pioneers at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Adena is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Adena is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Westfall. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Allie Bossert was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Bossert was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Bossert wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marly Halcomb, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Jolyn Jett also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Zane Trace never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Valley on Thursday. They blew past the Indians 11-1.
Like Adena, Zane Trace also got a great game from a two-way player: Maddison Will. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Will a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haylynn Boggess-Pierce, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Grace Lyon was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Zane Trace was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Adena's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Zane Trace, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-10.
Zane Trace's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Adena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Zane Trace, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain Adena's hitters?
