Collins has enjoyed a eight-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Richton Rebels at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though St. Helena College and Career Academy scored an imposing 66 points on Saturday, Collins still came out on top. Collins walked away with a 74-66 win over St. Helena College and Career Academy. Given Collins' advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 94th in Mississippi, while St. Helena College and Career Academy is ranked 249th in Louisiana), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Collins got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylen Willingham out in front who scored 27 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Willingham has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Logan White, who scored 15 points along with nine steals.
Meanwhile, Richton entered their tilt with North Forrest with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Richton snuck past North Forrest with a 43-37 victory last Thursday.
Dave Woulard and Brandon Brown were among the main playmakers for Richton as the former scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals and the latter scored ten points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Taylor, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Collins is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Richton, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Collins have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Richton, though, as they've been averaging only 28.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Collins against Richton in their previous meeting back in February of 2019 as the squad secured a 71-44 victory. Will Collins repeat their success, or does Richton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
