Having just played yesterday, the Middle Creek Mustangs will get right back to it and host the Cary Imps at 5:30 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Middle Creek is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cary in North Carolina (Middle Creek is ranked 49th, while Cary is ranked 265th).
After a string of 12 wins, Middle Creek's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. The contest between Middle Creek and Panther Creek wasn't particularly close, with Middle Creek falling 68-49. Middle Creek has struggled against Panther Creek recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Middle Creek saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alysia Pergerson, who scored nine points along with five steals, was perhaps the best of all. Pergerson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sarah Furst, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cary had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 47-36 victory over Green Hope.
Middle Creek's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-3. As for Cary, they pushed their record up to 7-8 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Middle Creek took their victory against Cary when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 71-45. Does Middle Creek have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cary turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
