Baseball Recap: Ray Takes a Loss

Ray had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-12-1 to make it four. They fell just short of the Miami Vandals by a score of 13-11. Even though they lost, the Bearcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

James Ruiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Ray's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 4-11-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of John Beede, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

As for Miami, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Miami's side, Ethan Guthrey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Guthrey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Gore, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Nathan Madrid also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Ray has already played their next matchup, a 20-1 victory against Patagonia on the 10th. As for Miami, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-0 loss against Pima on the 11th.
