Basketball Recap: Valor Preparatory Academy's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak at Home

Valor Preparatory Academy won the last time they faced Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, and Bishop Witherspoon did his part to make sure it happened again. The Valor Preparatory Academy Owls walked away with a 71-63 victory over the Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy Eagles on Saturday thanks in part to Witherspoon, who went 19 of 32 on his way to 39 points and eight steals. The matchup was his sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayce Newton, who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Patterson, who put up 15 points and three steals.

Valor Preparatory Academy's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Valor Preparatory Academy and Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Valor Preparatory Academy (ranked 366th) will meet Queen's Grant (ranked 67th) at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Valor Preparatory Academy has given up an average of 65.1 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Meanwhile, Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy (ranked 452nd) will meet Cannon (ranked 213th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
