Washington is a perfect 10-0 against Metamora since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Redbirds at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Washington proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Galesburg 10-8. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Silver Streaks: they've now won four in a row.
Washington got a big performance out of Micah McCoy, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Owen Klein was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Metamora). They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Champaign Central on Saturday. With that win, the Redbirds brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Eli Young was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those runs were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Avery Grebner, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Metamora always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Metamora's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Washington, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Metamora struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Washington's way against Metamora in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Washington made off with a 16-0 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Redbirds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
