Maryvale and Camelback are an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The pair will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Even though Maryvale has not done well against Carl Hayden Community recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Maryvale snuck past Carl Hayden Community with a 58-53 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Maryvale's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Carl Hayden Community is ranked 85th).
Maryvale found their leader in underclassman Adrian Stubbs, who scored 20 points along with nine steals and eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Murphy, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Camelback entered their tilt with North with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Camelback skirted past North 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Camelback has posted yet this season.
Maryvale's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10. As for Camelback, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-5.
Maryvale was able to grind out a solid victory over Camelback in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 64-54. Does Maryvale have another victory up their sleeve, or will Camelback turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
