V Section V recap September 17, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Riley Raban and Jake Zieler connected against Morenci. The connection went for 62 yards, the longest such play in V Section V this season.
Valley lost to Hopi 50-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
St. Johns's dynamic duo of Raban and Zieler proved to be unstoppable against the Wildcats, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Raban threw for 170 yards and Zieler had 82 yards receiving. Clayton Overson helped St. Johns' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.
The Redskins' dynamic duo of Raban and Zieler proved tough for Morenci to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Nate Gutierrez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Round Valley lost to Winslow. He completed 3 passes for 53 yards and also ran for 134 yards. Gutierrez's favorite target this week was Tanner Bingham, who caught 3 passes for 53 yards.
Zieler was the best wideout in the league this week as St. Johns bested Frank Ogas' team.
Gutierrez was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Brodee Bell added to the ground attack by rushing for 10 yards.
Raban put up the best numbers through the air as Mike Morgan's team topped the Wildcats.
The Redskins' Raban and Zieler have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading V Section V in both passing and receiving yards. Raban has thrown for 270 yards this season, while Zieler has 6 catches for 139 yards. Shem Bowman from Holbrook leads the league in rushing with 235 yards.
St. Johns made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,525 from 4,784. The improvement was the result of 23-13 victory over Morenci last week.
